AltWorld is a metaverse gaming platform that allows GenZ gamers to create custom 3D worlds and games easily, and connects these worlds to offer an immersive social gaming experience.
India’s booming gaming sector is expected to become a $5 billion market with over 400 million users by 2025, on the back of the ‘mobile-first’ phenomenon. There is a huge, untapped opportunity in India for games that connect people and offer the opportunity to socialize while gaming. User-generated content, meanwhile, is unexplored territory in India, and there is a gap in the market for products that allow users to create and distribute their own 3D experiences at scale.
AltWorld is a mobile-based, creator-led virtual world where users can engage in multiplayer 3D games and socialize with each other within immersive hangout spaces. Users can create and customize 3D worlds, clothing, and objects, and publish them instantly for their friends and others to experience. AltWorld encourages budding creators to unleash their creativity and express themselves through interactive 3D content using simple no-code tools, which otherwise requires a fairly complex and professional skill set.
Headquartered in Bengaluru, AltWorld was founded by Alok Maurya, Saurabh Maheshwari and Subham Kumar Boundia in December 2021. After graduating from the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Alok specialized in engineering roles and led large tech teams at Unacademy and Flatchat. Saurabh has more than a decade of experience building intuitive user experiences, products and scalable systems. He studied at the Vellore Institute of Technology and took on technical roles at Unacademy and HitWicket. Subham is a growth leader turned founder, with more than six years of experience in hyper-growth roles in Unacademy and Ola. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University Varanasi and specializes in product led growth and analytics.
